Quarry Rock (Deep Cove, Vancouver) Hike

Where:

  • Quarry Rock – Deep Cove – Vancouver

When:

  • November 3, 2018

Who:

  • Ed, Robyn, Maddie, Saskia, Sandy, Eric

Trailhead:

  • a half hour drive from downtown Vancouver to the Deep Cove community
  • park either on the road near the trailhead on the left hand side of Panorama Road or at a parking lot across the street

Degree of difficulty:

  • 100 meters elevation
  • 3.8 km round trip
  • out and back on the same trail
  • moderate climb at the start and then it winds up and down thru the forest
  • we had slippery conditions with the rain and roots on parts of the trail
  • need to be careful at the rock as it slopes down steeply on the front and sides
  • it only took us about a half an hour each direction, but it is nice to sit at the rock for a while

Interesting notes:

  • we grabbed some healthy breakfast, and trail chow at Bluehouse Market and Café in Deep Cove
  • the views from the rock down to Deep Cove and beyond are spectacular and a serene place to be although I imagine it is a super busy trail most of the time
  • after the hike, our pal Colonel Sanders (Sandy), insisted that we calorie back up by stopping in at Honeys Doughnuts & Goodies
  • overall it’s a beautiful spot, and a person could tie it into a kayak around the Deep Cove area or some other hikes on the North Shore
