Powderface Creek – Prairie Link – Prairie Creek Hike

Where:

  • Powderface Creek – Prairie Link – Prairie Creek Trail

When:

  • April 27, 2025

Who:

  • Ed, Dave, Erin, Kellie, Oak, Rod, Dally, Neil, Kardy

Trailhead:

  • 20 minutes (23 km) south (Highway 22) and west (Highway 66) of Bragg Creek
  • the parking lot is on the right-hand side just past the Elbow Falls parking lot
  • the trailhead starts out of the far left side of the parking lot and follows Powderface Creek for 4 km before turning right onto Prairie Link and over the hill to Prairie Creek, where you turn right again to head back towards the parking lot

Degree of difficulty:

  • 455 meters elevation
  • 12.2 km
  • the hike took us three hours
  • the trail is somewhat gentle, with a few moderate climbs along the way

Interesting notes:

  • I have biked this trail many times in the past, but this was the first time I have hiked it
  • the trail can be done in either direction, but most people take the clockwise route, following the steeper Powderface Creek trail before descending on the more gradual Prairie Link trail
  • the views were limited on this low cloud and misty day, but they include Prairie Mountain, Powderface Mountain, and a few other smaller mountains
