Mount Kidd Lookout
Where:
- Mount Kidd Lookout
When:
- November 22, 2025
Who:
- Ed, Dave, Rod, Erin, Brenda, Mike, Peter, Neil, Janet, Dave
Trailhead:
- from Highway 1 take Highway 40 south for 25 km and turn right onto Kananaskis Village Road (Mt. Allan Drive), then turn left onto Centennial Drive, then turn right onto Terrice Drive, then take the next right into a parking area on the right hand side
- the trailhead starts out on the Terrace trail, and then you head onto the Kovach trail
- after two switchbacks take the trail with the blue flagging tape, where the trail starts to climb very steeply all the way to the lookout
- once you reach the lookout (which is just a cement pad) you can continue for another km along gradual uphill humps to reach a cliff band on Mount Kidd

Degree of difficulty:
- 725 meters elevation
- 8 km return
- the hike took us 4 hours
- this trail is very steep and it got very icy as we entered the tree line just below the summit, so our spikes were a savior

Interesting notes:
- there are great views of Mt. Allan, Mount Sparrowhawk, Mount Kidd, Mount Bogart, The Wedge, Centennial Ridge, Mt. Baldy, and several other peaks in the area
- Mount Kidd is named after John Alfred (Fred) Kidd, who was a resident of nearby Morley, Alberta
- from 1902 to 1907, Kidd ran the Morley general store and outfitted expeditions and geological survey crews such as with supplies
- the fire lookout was active from 1982-92 and was removed in 1997
