14 opinions from the Edventure group on their favorite hiking trails

What is your favorite trail, and why?

  • Stanley glacier. Views, the hanging waterfall, the variety of eco zones.
  • Sarrail Ridge… pound for pound the best hike in the Rockies (in my opinion). Rawson Lake is about halfway, and the view from the top is unbelievable.
  • The Alpine circuit at Lake O’Hara. It has everything; lakes, waterfalls, high alpine, meadows, wildlife, and not many people. The beauty there is absolutely stunning.
  • Wasootch Ridge or Pocaterra Ridge. I love the undulating nature of them; just as you think you can’t go up anymore, you are gifted a downward section. You also get two sets of views on either side of the ridge.
  • I don’t have a single favorite trail. I like the entire Spray Valley.
  • This one is easy. It has trees and rocks and grass and big elevation, maybe some animals, fresh air and stupid nature all around.  Really I just don’t care as long as I’m out!!
  • Upper Kananaskis Lake Loop! Easy walk (no net elevation gain, 16 km. loop, wide trail), Varied terrain, bridges, waterfalls, forest, and beaches. Great place for the dogs to swim!
  • The Giant Steps (Paradise Valley) in the fall when the larch trees are changing to their vibrant yellow color.
  • Stanley Glacier – love the mini-waterfalls on a hot summer day and the variety of wildflowers near the trailhead.
  • My favorite shorter trail for warmer days is Galatea. Not technically difficult and with the lakes as the reward and the streams and swimming holes towards the bottom, I enjoyed a dip the last few times there!!
  • Hiking is about sharing the wonderful experience with family and friends. Therefore, my favorite hike is Galatea as it has beautiful bridges, epic watering holes (Aka – Dave submersion holes) and is moderate which allows accessibility for a range of levels.
  • Several faves, Chester, James Walker, Wasootch.  Not super difficult, easy to access, suitable for many levels of hiker.
  • Berg Lake, a number in the Crowsnest Pass, Pocaterra Ridge in K country is good fun, and hiking around Assiniboine.
  • With an infinite variety of trails at our doorstep, it’s hard to pick just one. But I’ll go with Stanley Glacier. I love the panorama of waterfalls.
