Master Creative – Interview with Gordon Galenza

You are one of the most creative people I know.  At what age did this creativity emerge, and do you remember how it came to be?

Age 5 on the homestead I discovered my Dad’s workshop and tools along with nails, screws, gears, pulleys, wood, paint etc. and I began to create what my Mother called ‘CONTRAPTIONS’.

Have you had much training over the years, or are you mostly self-taught?

I am totally ‘self taught’……….buy a book and look and look then experiment and perfect what comes naturally.

Do you have any mentors or people whose work that you have admired over the years?

Da Vinci, Picasso, Dali, Kandinsky, Greene brothers, Gris, Schwitters, etc. ad infinitum…….the list is long and I have not mentioned contemporary creatives I admire.

What are the different forms of artistic endeavors that you have been involved in over the years?

Graphics, Architectural Drawings and Models, Fine Furniture, Art Furniture, Boxes, Ink and  Watercolor, Collage, Acrylics,  Abstract Mixed Media, Experimental Sculptural Constructions and more.

What is your current focus?

Trying to decide which of the many passions to indulge.

Why are you so passionate about the artistic world?

I think that through the Arts and the creative process we as a human entity have a better chance of survival along with our planet by purging our insatiable greed for money and power.

Adopting an intuitive good heart approach towards nature and our fellow man is a good start.

What would people be surprised to know about you?

I’m just a country boy at heart trying to navigate his life through the maze of technology, greed and destruction that currently pervades our bewildered planet.

What brought you joy this week?

World youth activists who have more balls in their toenails than all our so-called world leaders put together.
