Engagement Mountain Hike
Where:
- Engagement Mountain Hike
When:
- May 2, 2026
Who:
- Ed, Reggie, Dave, Rod, Dally, Roger
Trailhead:
- take Highway 1 west and turn right at the Lac des Arcs overpass, then turn left to cross back over the highway
- take the ramp that brings you back heading East, and the parking area is in the ditch on the side of the highway about a km past Heart Creek on the right-hand side at what is known as the Quaite Valley trailhead
- you start up a dirt road and at about 200 meters look for a narrow opening where you turn left and start the climb to the ridge
- the trail stays on the edge of the ridge for quite a while before it descends
- most of the trail is easy to follow, but there are a lot of areas coming across and down the ridge where a tracking device is helpful

Degree of difficulty:
- 475 meters elevation
- 9 km
- the hike starts out flat but then quickly ascends up the mountain
- the hike took us three hours

Interesting notes:
- Engagement Peak is an easily accessible hike from Calgary
- it provides a decent workout and has a few scrambling sections that require confident footing
- there are panoramic 360-degree views at the top of Heart Mountain, Mount Yamnuska, Grotto Mountain, Loder Peak, and many others
- there are also a number of cool looking dead trees as you ascend the top of the ridge
- the mountain goes by many names, including Bears Bump, Razors Edge, and Biffy Peak
